A builder by training, and by temperament
Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat — widely known as Femi Hamzat — has served as the Deputy Governor of Lagos State since 29 May 2019, working alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to deliver on the state’s development agenda.
Born in Lagos on 19 September 1964, he trained as an engineer — earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Ibadan and a doctorate in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University in England. Before public life he held roles across the private sector, including at Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and as Chief Information Officer at Oando Plc, bringing a rigorous, systems-minded approach to governance.
His public service spans two decades: Commissioner for Science and Technology, then Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure — where he oversaw landmark projects including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge — and today, the office of Deputy Governor.
